The subject of fatherhood is exemplified by displaying the qualities a father should possess. I use my own father, Marcus Aibangbee, as the epitome of fatherhood. In this project, three well known fathers, Reverend Run, Barack Obama and Chris Garnder are highlighted as examples of what I consider to be committed fathers and role models. In this project I describe three key components which are necessary to the fatherhood role: foundation, unconditional love, and unwavering dedication. These attributes will be further explained and demonstrated in the testimonials and stories from my family. In the video, they share their stories, relationships and interactions with our father. “Aibangbee,” is a name derived from the Benin people of Nigeria, West Africa and it literally means “don’t boycott your family.” I chose this name for the project because i my father lived up to the truth and power of this name. The memories, recreated through animation, demonstrate the care my father put into all he did for his children, and the legacy he left us as well. This work is especially created for those who may not have had fathers growing up, and for those who will become fathers eventually themselves. It is my goal as an artist, to provide the viewer with an opportunity to emotionally connect with Aibangbee, and hopefully explore his or her relationships with their own fathers or father figures.
